Awesome sunset over Saint Mary's Bay.

This is Belliveau Cove Lighthouse in a Nor'easter.

A nice warm fire.

Progress

 We are still working on
our little staircase gallery.

Unbelievable what a few coats of white, pale yellow, bright yellow and even some black paint can do!

As soon as all the framed prints, carvings and beach glass and stones are in place, I will post some new photos.

Don't forget to check out my 365 project - Today is day 251.

Passing my lens so far this summer...

This summer has been a busy one so far. Flying by almost in a blur! Fireworks, camp fires, farmers markets, getting out to meet great new artists and producers, photography, writing, wire wrapping, and beautiful beaches all mixed in with amazing times with family & friends. Do you see the fire spirits in this one?

365 Project - Day 121 - 5/1/11

Started reading Electric City: The Stehelins of New France by Paul H. Stehelin today, really loving it, amazing story! This is a photo of the Wheels from the Marie Therese, from the New France Railway, 1897. New France - also known as the "Electric City" was a former settement in Nova Scotia. It was founded in 1892 by the Stehelin family of France. Many years before electricity was available in the rest of Digby County the mill generated electricity for lighting and New France became known as "Electric City".
365 Project - Day 118 - 4/28/11                                                                                                      (Click on the link below to be taken to the full size image on my website.) http://www.goodnaturephotography.com/365project/365projectday118.html
A pole railway constructed by the Stehelins ran to Weymouth, 17 miles away to ship lumber. For close to two decades (1895–1912) the Stehelins ran a successful lumbering operation. Due to decreasing lumber prices after the First World War ended, the operation could not be sustained. The buildings were torn down in the late 1950s. A hundred years ago the Stehelin family entertained friends and business colleagues from around the world with dinners, dances, hunting and skating.
New France blended European French, Acadian, Black and Mi'kmaq cultures. All that remains today are some of the stone foundations. Photo taken in Church Point, Nova Scotia.

April 1, 2011

Snow & rain in Nova Scotia today, but spring and warmer weather will return in a day or two.
The rain will make everything around us turn green.

Wandering through the woods in Saulnierville Station I found this crooked cabin that has surely seen better days.

Tattoos by Jamie MacKay

An amazing charcoal drawing by Jamie MacKay that was pulled recently by facebook.
Many facebook users made this picture their profiled picture in protest.
"Vanishing Cream"
The piece is entitled "Vanishing Cream".

Jamie's intent with this piece is to portray the concept that society in general has an obsession with beauty and with "fixing" what may not be broken at all. It focuses on the consequences of seeking the unattainable public perception of beauty, thereby losing sight of who we really are. The image was meant to capture this "melting" or "dissolving" of one's true self in the vain search of this unattainable perfection that society dictates to the masses.

365 Project - Day 17 - 1/17/11 - Snow Rollers

Snow Rollers - 365 Project - Day 17 - 1/17/11

The snow balls are called snow rollers. For snow rollers to form, the ground must be covered by a layer of ice or packed snow. That layer of ice must then become covered by wet or loose snow with a temperature near the freezing mark. The wind must be strong enough to pick up some snow. The balls are formed as the snow is blown along the ground by wind! Snow rollers are a fairly rare meteorological phenomenon. Saulnierville, Nova Scotia.

Meteghan River Bridge - Removal of the temporary Bridge. Clare, Nova Scotia

Meteghan River Bridge Removal - Photos of the the workers and the work that was done with heavy machinery including excavators, even one floating on a barge to remove the old temporary bridge to make way for the permanent one.

You can see parts of AF Theriault & Son Ltd. Boat Building & Repair in the background of many of the photographs. One of the largest, privately owned shipyards in Canada's Atlantic region. Af Theriault was founded in 1938 by Augustin Theriault in an era where wooden 3-masted sailing ships ruled the seas. More about AFT
